While Rich wanted more “symbolic content,” Jan was deeply moved by the universality of Hardwicke’s naturalistic approach, presenting Castle-Hughes (“Mary”) & Isaac (“Joseph”) as two good-hearted young people who must learn to trust one another so they can succeed as parents.
