Please, folks, when you look at this new Annenberg data, please make sure you draw the RIGHT conclusions. Please don’t conclude that women aren’t making movies, because they are. That is NOT the problem!
The problem is that audiences don’t know about their movies, haven’t seen their movies, etc. That’s why of the ~ 500 films released in 2008, so few of the 100 TOP GROSSING films were made by women.
So follow this WomenArts link & ask yourself: how many of these films have I seen??? We MUST take personal responsibility here. We MUST see more films by women filmmakers, otherwise the situation will NOT change 🙁
