The International Women’s Writing Guild Presents
April 13-14, 2013
Scandinavia House on Park Avenue
Had a wonderful time last weekend at IWWG’s Spring Conference. Met talented women writers from all over (local women from Queens and Staten Island, as well as travelers from Boston and Baltimore).
Eunice Scarfe and Amy Ferris lead writing sessions where we were all did several rounds of “scribble then share.” Since I don’t generally record my own life experiences, this was a real challenge for me & I learned a lot about myself in the process. It’s amazing what comes to mind when someone says: “For the next 10 minutes, I want you to write about the first thing you thought about when you woke up this morning.”
Sunday afternoon, I did my very first “Meet the Agents” session. It’s like Speed Dating: eight literary professionals sit at tables, and you dash from table-to-table pitching your ideas. Amazing as it seems now, I think I actually made a connection or two in this process, so we’ll see what happens next…
Also enjoyed all the breaks & lunches with my colleagues. And of course I bought some fun Marimekko stuff from the Scandinavia House gift shop before heading home 😉
Many thanks to IWWG Executive Director Cynthia Fritts Stillwell for her warm greetings & to Membership/Media Director Kristin Conroy for behind-the-scenes coaching. (“Hi, Kristin: What’s the dress code???”)
And huge thanks to all those who bought copies of my book Penny’s Picks at the Sunday AM Book Fair!
PS: Thanks too to the very nice lady who took this photo. Bad Jan for not even asking your name!
