BioPic of Ward Allen (Jim Caviezel) is based on the book Ward Allen: Savannah River Market Hunter in which Georgia native son & author John Cay (Bradley Whitford) narrates tall tales about a time gone by.
Visuals of a pre-Industrial South are beautiful & all the performances are heart-felt, but filmmaker Annette Haywood-Carter wastes too much time on a soapy romance which couldn’t possibly be true. (Cay tells us Allen was born right before the start of the Civil War & yet he marries “Miss Lucy” sometime around WWI… um…?)
The wildness in this cultured man—Ward Allen—is a story worth telling clean. (JLH: 3/5) Click HERE for our FF2 Haiku.
