OutAndAboutSo much to love in this story of a woman from a traditional Nigerian family desperate to conceive a child, but screenplay by Darci Picoult leaves too many plot holes in need of filling.

Actress/Playwright Danai Gurira is luminous in the central role, but she is also too old to be who she is supposed to be without a backstory to anchor her.

Alas, the great cinematography (by Bradford Young), just by itself, only get us so far. (JLH: 3.5/5)

Note: Jenny Baptiste is also the credited Stills Photographer for Pariah, and Bradford Young is also the credited Cinematographer for Pariah and Middle of Nowhere.

Therefore, individually & collectively, these two terrific visual artists are capturing beautiful images of dark black skin on film, and thereby helping to transform the marketing of films starring actors with dark black skin. BRAVO 🙂
