MMI Turns 25!

13Sept15PSpent Sunday Sept 15 in Astoria at the wonderful Museum of the Moving Image. As new members , we’ve arrived just in time to celebrate MMI’s 25th anniversary.

On 9/15/13, a members-only Brunch was followed by a special screening of Singin’ in the Rain (which really holds up!!!) and a preview of Enough Said with special guests Director Nicole Holofcener & Producer Andrew Bregman plus star Julie Louis-Dreyfus.

What a day & what a way to start 5774 after praying hard all day Saturday 🙂

We’ve met folks in Brooklyn who have never been to MMI, & we’ve met folks in NYC who would never go to MMI (because it’s in–ugh–Queens), but we’re still New York Newbees, so we think it’s great!

Shout-Out to our friends in Chicago: We think of MMI as “Siskel East” (meaning it’s a bigger version of the Gene Siskel Film Center at the School of the Art Institute–where we spent so many wonderful hours over the years). Like the GSFC, MMI has two auditoriums, one small & intimate and one large & boisterous. Auditorium #2 (where MMI shows films in their “See It Big!” series), has stadium seating & terrific blue acoustic paneling.

MMI also has exhibit space (which GSFC doesn’t have). Permanent exhibit has great stuff like the suit Richard Gere wore for his “Razzle Dazzle” number and the gown Queen Latifah wore for her “When You’re Good to Mama” number (both from Chicago which Jan still thinks is the Best Musical ever made–even after watching Singin’ in the Rain again).
