About The Hunger Games: Catching Fire… Technically, given the rules of this site, I don’t have to say anything about The Hunger Games: Catching Fire… Why? Because it was directed by Francis Lawrence (a man) & the screenplay was written by two men. But since Katniss Everdine has become a role model for so many young women, I felt I had to jump in.
Oh, Jennifer! That such a terrific young actress should be saddled with such preposterous dialogue is a true travesty. Somehow I had hoped that with a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy (who won an Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire) & Michael Arndt (who won an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine) there might be some pearls in this swine-swill… but no. I loved these two films, but The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is awful. (JLH: 2/5)

Bottom Line: I go so you don’t have to 🙁
Top Photo: Katniss Everdine (Jennifer Lawrence) at home in District 12 after winning The 74th Annual Hunger Games. Winning was supposed to give her–and her family–a life time of financial security, but no. Evil “President Snow” (Donald Sutherland) agrees to a plan to suddenly declare the 75th games a culling of the Best-of-Best, so let the new games begin. Oy!
Bottom Photo: Back in the Capital, Katniss appears in one of her transformative costumes during a widely broadcast interview with “Caesar Flickerman” (Stanley Tucci). She’s wearing what was supposed to be the wedding dress for her marriage to “Peeta” (Josh Hutcherson). Double Oy!!!

Final Note: My alter ego “Second City Tzivi” can’t help noting that in the quasi-Roman world of the Capital (populated with characters called Cinna & Flavius), Caesar the Huckster (who mediates between the audience & heartland folks with names like Katniss Everdine) has a kinda-sorta Jewish surname. A Triple Oy Trifecta 🙁
