Since moving to Brooklyn in late 2012, I have made a personal commitment to see EVERY film opening in NYC that was either written &/or directed by a woman filmmaker.
In fact, the number is enormous either written &/or directed by a woman filmmaker is enormous (typically four or so every week, and one week as high as nine). As any honest person would expect, some of these films are terrific, some some of these films are awful, & most some of these films fall somewhere in between.
BUT SOME OF THE FILMS WRITTEN &/OR DIRECTED BY WOMEN FILMMAKERS ARE TERRIFIC!!!
So when the list of Oscar nominees is announced every year, I not only know what what AMPAS–the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences–has selected, I also know what AMPAS has rejected. And that gives me a very different POV on this topic than almost anyone else on the planet.
Folks, I know for a fact that “The Truth is Out There.” But how do we get current reality closer to actual truth? That will only happen when more of you learn to care…
